Austin City Limits Music Festival, Day 2
The second day of the Austin City Limits festival has drawn to a close. It was a good day, I have to say. Much rocking and rolling was had by all.
Modest Mouse was OK, though I was a little disappointed. The mixing wasn't so good. That is, the vocals should have been a little higher, but that was a problem last night with Ryan Adams, too. And we were super far back, with our fellow fold-out chair people (after our 2 1/2 mile hike through the woods to get there, we wanted to rock in some comfy chairs, with some ice-cold water). Plus, some other band had some ridiculously loud bass, that was just about louder than Modest Mouse's bass.
The shining jewel of the show, as far as sheer quality goes, was definately My Morning Jacket. It was almost unfair. They had perfect mixing, with every instrument perfectly balanced; they played very tightly; the singer was dead-on, and even the camera guys got better video feeds up to the big screen (fretboard close-ups of guitar solos--Go!). Anyway, they really blew the asses off of every other band.
...Though, the Pixies gave them a run for their money. They played well, and their crazy, song-packed set list included every Pixies song I ever wanted to hear live, with the exception of "Here Comes Your Man." They rocked the end of the day so, so hard.
Tomorrow: Spoon, Cake, Elvis Costello, and Wilco!
